Since its release in 2014, the Boschkloof (Stellenbosch, South Africa) Epilogue Syrah has been called a ‘ground breaking, paradigm-shifting Syrah’ by Greg Sherwood MW, been the first SA wine to crack 98/100 from Tim Atkin MW, and both the 2015 and 2016 have been awarded numerous 95 to 98-point scores. The 2017 Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah is even more accomplished than previous vintages. The Epilogue is produced from the scarce SH99 clone. Renowned for its perfume but plagued by a disease that causes the vines to die off, this clone adds detail and purity to this apex release. The wine is muscular with chewy and savoury tannins whilst retaining loads of verve. There is some oak sweetness to finish that is sure to integrate. Lovely calm density at the core, the wine is fluid and will age gracefully but shows remarkable balance when young. Ambitious, accomplished and sheer class.
